Award rates calculator FAQ

How accurate is this award rates calculator?

It is an estimate-only illustration. It applies the Modern Award’s penalty multipliers (Saturday, Sunday, public holiday, evening and casual loading) to a base rate you enter — it does not store award minimum wages, overtime tiers, allowances, or classifications. Always confirm pay with Fair Work Australia or your payroll provider.

Why do I have to enter the base rate myself?

Award minimum wages depend on the employee’s classification and change every year, so the tool does not hard-code them. You enter the base hourly rate (from the Fair Work pay calculator) and the tool shows how the penalty loadings stack on top.

When do award rates change?

Rates are reviewed annually in the Fair Work Commission Annual Wage Review and take effect on 1 July each year. The penalty multipliers used here were verified July 2025.

General information only — not legal or payroll advice. Penalty rates carry classifications, allowances, and coverage tests this page does not evaluate, and they change annually. Confirm the current figures with the Fair Work Ombudsman, Fair Work Commission, or your payroll provider before paying staff.
